Why Trees are Vital
Our world is facing a crisis that few are focusing on, and yet, impacts all of us: deforestation. Deforestation causes our air to be more polluted which means things are only going to get hotter and more detrimental to our health. It destroys natural wild habitats of endangered animals that are a crucial part of our ecosystems. It also destroys the lives of those communities that depend on the forests’ natural resources to earn a living and see a rise in flooding in their area. And guess what, it also causes flooding right in your own backyard and streets! Trees allow water to penetrate deeper, be absorbed faster, reduce sediment runoff, slow down flood waters and even reduce the amount of rainwater that ends up on the ground. Trees literally save lives. Plus, trees are kind of important for book making, so we want to give back more than we take.

Supporting Communities
“At the center of Eden Reforestation Projects is our relationships with local communities. We work alongside them to restore and monitor over 241,150 hectares of land, thereby creating jobs to support the communities and environment in the long-term.” -Eden Reforestation Projects. Serving and improving the lives of underprivileged communities is something Galaxy Gals Studio deeply values and are always looking for ways to help both locally and abroad. We are so excited to be working with Eden Reforestation Project through The Good API to plant a tree with each item you purchase and help with their mission of land restoration. We would also like to raise the bar and donate an additional $1 (4 trees!) for each book you purchase from our bookshop site. Just send a screenshot of your receipt to our email and we will send you proof of our donation in your honor!

Empowering Women
Here at Galaxy Gals, we are all about empowering women to have agency of their life and to be able to have the same rights and ability to support themselves as men. In the video bellow, you’ll see just how the Eden Reforestation Project is giving women in these communities the option to work and provide for their families, send their children to school, and even reduce the amount of domestic violence in the home. Many of the women in these communities are tied to their home, lacking the ability to read or write, or simply unable to work due to the need to tend to their family members. The Eden Project brings jobs right to their villages, giving equal pay to women and men for the work that they do. Not only are they able to improve their home lives and have a stable source of income, they also help reforest their area and improve the environment as well.

“Today less than 30% of Nepal's forests remain and the consequences of this environmental degradation are devastating for local populations.” -Read More
More than 90% of Madagascar's primary forests are destroyed, impacting people living in underserved areas.
Madagascar
“Madagascar is one of the world’s top biodiversity conservation priorities because of its endemic species and severe habitat loss rates. Restoration in Madagascar is important because the destruction of the mangrove estuaries along the coastline has caused mudflats to wash into the ocean, destroying once-productive fisheries and increasing the vulnerability of coastal communities to hurricanes, tsunamis, and floods. In the inland region of Madagascar, deforestation threatens one of the world’s rarest and most diverse forest systems.” -Read More
